Thank you for your interest in our program. We strive to develop great individuals for the reining and reined cow horse arenas. We’re not a large operation, and most of the horses here have been bred by others. Buying weanlings or long yearlings to train, show and sell, and purchasing the occasional older horse to finish seems to work for us. Drawing from a professional background, we know there are so many well-bred, athletic individuals out there. It's the training and care that make the difference in turning out well-adjusted show horses.

Whether weanlings, show horses or broodmares, Electric Spin horses experience age-appropriate training.  We believe in youngsters that are curious but respectful, and older horses that are a pleasure to be around. Colts are haltered and accept leading, tying, foot handling and vaccination from weaning through the summer of their yearling year, a little at a time.
Each stall in our small barn opens to an adjoining 16x60' run.

In the fall, the long yearlings graduate to more advanced lessons.  They are lunged, sacked out and saddled in the round pen, learning to give to pressure.  If they are strong-bodied and mentally mature enough, colts might have their first few rides in November or December in a simple snaffle. They’re then given a break over the holidays, and start fresh and ready to learn in early spring.

Along with physical mastery of maneuvers, the colts develop 'try' throughout their first year under saddle.
Prospects spend time both in the arena and on the trail, learning to guide, stop and back while developing softness in the face and body.  They learn to move their shoulders, hips and ribcage independently when asked.  They are exposed to dogs, buffalo, cattle, water and traffic while their temperament, athletic ability and trainability are assessed.  Each colt is given as much time as he needs to master a particular basic.  Just enough pressure is applied to allow the colt to become a problem-solver; his confidence and ‘try’ develop as well as his coordination.

Electric Spin Enterprises specializes in producing competitive reining horses and reined cow horses; all of the horses here are bred for one or the other, or both.  During their two year-old year, most will be developing stops, turnarounds (spins), speed control and eventually flying lead changes.  Many of the colts will be ready for small sliding plates by the summer and some will be confident circling at speed and changing leads by late fall.

Colts who are more ‘internal’; who seem happy to travel with a level topline, show talent in stopping and spinning and who are not easily distracted will likely be developed and sold as reiners.  The ‘external’ colts that naturally want to watch and react to movements around them will be introduced to cattle and/or buffalo and likely head toward the reined cow horse arena.  Each colt has its place and some may even be most suited to cutting, ranch versatility or team penning/sorting.
Each horse has the opportunity to excel.

Three year olds and aged event horses will be shown in NRHA, NRCHA and/or AQHA competition at the regional or national level until they’re sold. All of them will have been hauled to and ridden at various events prior to being shown, to help ease the transition from green colt to show horse. Experienced show horses at Electric Spin Enterprises spend plenty of time staying fresh with rides outside between shows.  They are also taken to schooling shows or paid warm-ups to hone their skills.

Every horse is expected to bathe, clip and load well, and to stand for the farrier.  Any horse with a particular issue or phobia, or potential soundness/maintenance issue, will be represented honestly. We want you to come back to Electric Spin for your next performance horse.
